Our members not only save lives but also educate, connect, and protect our communities, by the community, for the community, and that is something we are deeply proud of.
Surf Life Saving Sydney respects and acknowledges the traditional custodians across all the lands on which we live, work and patrol, and we pay our respects to Elders past, present and emerging. Sydney Branch Championships are the ultimate in pitting our Surf Clubs against each other.
The Branch Champs allows our members to compete, on the water and sand, in no shortage of disciplines over the weekend. It’s a great opportunity to test your skills, try your luck and have some fun, all while representing your club, and having a go.

Branch Champs Details
The 2025-26 Surf Life Saving Sydney Branch Championships are still in the planning stages while we work with our clubs, committees, councils and sponsors. Keep an eye out for the announcement of dates and venues. In the meantime, be sure to keep up the training, and we’ll see you at the starting line soon.
You’ll need to reach out to your Surf Club who will be registering everyone into their team. Just give them a call and tell then that you, or your young ones, are keen to attend the Branch Champs and let them know what events you are keen to register for.
Carnival Events
Swimming Events
From surf race to belt race, and tube to run-swim-run, there’s no shortage of swimming action on the beaches.
Beach Events
Covering individual sprints to team relays, and the longer soft sand runs, to the ultimate beach flags. Stetch those legs, the sand is calling.
Surf Ski and Surf Board Events
Single and double skis, to the board races, and the combined relays, there’s plenty of action in the waves.
Multi Discipline Events
The Lifesavers relay, the Ironman and Ironwoman, and the ultimate team event, the Taplin. No better way to finding out how you’ll go than by giving it a try.
Champion Lifesaver
What better way to show the physical, lifesaving and knowledge skills required of a lifesaver than through competing against your peers?
March Past
There is no event with more tradition within surf lifesaving than the March Past. Your chance to compete with your teammates for pride, tradition and honour.
First Aid
The First Aid competition promotes and demonstrates a high standard of First Aid prowess by our competitors.
Patrol Competition
The Patrol Competition allows our lifesavers to work as a team in performing the skills associated with surf rescue patrol work.
Rescue and Resuscitation
The Rescue & Resuscitation (R&R) competition allows participants to demonstrate their Rescue and Resuscitation skills in a competitive setting.
Adaptive Events
Our Adaptive competition allows for competitors with a disability to join the action of the Branch Champs through our adaptive specific events.
Carnival Rules
Surf Life Saving Australia update their Surf Sports Manual for all Carnival guidelines and rules.
These rules include
- The eligibility conditions for age categories, substitution and other required provisions to compete
- Event description and rules
- Equipment specifications, including swimwear and goggles.
Results
On carnival day you’ll need to bring your Live Heats band or purchase a new/replacement band.
All Live Heats results are available for everyone to see afterwards.
